If I die young,
History will remember me
for I have attained medals,
acquired certificates of achievements
and received a trophy of triumph.
If I die young,
friends and family may never comprehend
my true feelings and thoughts about life.
Teachers and classmates shall hear no more
of the loud and provocative tone in readings.
Partners and associates can see no more
extravagant actions that oppose the status quo.
But the whole world of readers will
seize and feel the intensity of my words.
If I die young,
Julius Caesar and I will share
the same recognition.
Pericles and I will be
given the same gratitude in architecture.
Dickens and I will have
the same remembrance in books.
Mary Shelley and I
achieving the same respect from you.
If I die young,
and quite frankly,
I might die young,
you will never know the reality of I am Who.
