To see my blog grow into this beautiful place simply gives me so much encouragement. Since my last post, I have seen reader growth from almost none to the big 100. To be able to achieve this feat, I thank each and everyone of you readers for having the interest in my blog and I. To kick start the new year, I'll begin to post more often and here is an ordinary reflection I wrote yesterday based on my favourite Japanese writer, Haruki Murakami.

Haruki Murakami |
In one of the many books I have read from Murakami, I can’t help but agree with his views regarding college/university lifestyle. He writes that attending classes is not just a form of learning, but also a form of discipline. I have not understood this concept yet but his other belief that going to the library as a form of discipline is a belief that has struck me the most. Today is officially the 6th day of college for me since class started on the 9th of January and I have been going to the library since the first day until now. From my non-scientific observations, I have noticed that the amount of people coming to the Quiet Area has gradually increased. This is painfully evident as the first three days of college only had a dozen of students, while today, it has escalated into at least 50 students. Almost all the desks are taken and people are deeply focused on their work. This work culture has made me think about the horrors of the workplace. In the THOL library, the desks are set up in groups of 6; each table separated by a thin plastic panel to prevent you from looking at the person directly in front of you or beside you. However, you can see the person diagonally across you perfectly, but most people are too busy to even look up. If my workplace should be this cramped and crowded, I am sure that I will greatly dislike going to work. I prefer empty spacious places with around a dozen people keeping to themselves. If this continues on, I think I might have to spend my two hours and forty minutes study break out in the hot, humid campus. Of course, I do not think that I will be moving away from THOL any time soon as the benefits of having air-con and a clean table to work on just disables me from thinking of another place that I could do work on campus.
